En reprenant les codes de la science-fiction, auquel il mêle histoires familiales et réappropriation imaginaire des expériences et identités arabes, Mounir Ayache s’inscrit dans le courant non-officiel de l’arabfuturism, inspiré de l’afrofuturism des années 1990. Ces mouvements emploient la fiction pour proposer des récits et des réalités alternatifs. Il utilise ce qu’il appelle ironiquement une esthétique « SF orientale » afin de singer les représentations de l’Autre et de l’Etranger dans les fictions occidentales. En plus des codes et de la rhétorique de la science-fiction, Mounir Ayache se sert des nouvelles technologies pour réaliser et transmettre ses idées, et brouille ainsi les frontières entre art contemporain et entertainment. Mounir Ayache’s (b. 1991, FR/MA)&nbsp;technological creations cast an unfamiliar light on&nbsp;the political and social realities of the Arab world. By&nbsp;envisioning&nbsp;alternate&nbsp;futures, Ayache&nbsp;proposes an image of&nbsp;the Arab world&nbsp;radically different from those circulated in the West. His&nbsp;sci-fi&nbsp;approach&nbsp;weaves together&nbsp;family histories, fictionalised re-appropriations of experiences and Arab identities.&nbsp;These traits situate&nbsp;Ayache&nbsp;within&nbsp;the&nbsp;emergent&nbsp;movement of Arabfuturism, which derives its name from the Afrofuturism movement&nbsp;in the 90s.&nbsp;Both Afro and Arabfuturism&nbsp;are&nbsp;characterised&nbsp;by a turn to fiction that allows&nbsp;us&nbsp;to imagine&nbsp;vastly&nbsp;different realities. Ayache&nbsp;knowingly deploys the tropes of&nbsp;“oriental sci-fi”&nbsp;in order to&nbsp;parody&nbsp;the way Western fictions represent&nbsp;“Others”&nbsp;and&nbsp;“Foreigners”.&nbsp;In addition to drawing on the codes of the sci-fi genre,&nbsp;his use of technology blurs the boundaries&nbsp;between contemporary art and entertainment. The dioramas depict environments created through 3D printing and digital milling, blending traditional and digital sculptures to create virtual worlds; the video game adds an additional layer of
