Bio
Mounir Ayache (b. 1991) is a French-Moroccan artist based in Marseille, France, whose technologically driven works reframe political and social realities in North/West Africa and the MENA region. Drawing on science-fiction codes, family narratives, and an imaginative reappropriation of Arab experiences and identities, his practice aligns with Arabfuturism—an unofficial current shaped by 1990s Afrofuturism that turns to fiction to propose alternate narratives. Ayache mirrors representations of the Other and the Foreigner in Western fiction, using emerging tools to blur the lines between contemporary art and entertainment. His work has been shown at Manifesta 13, Marseille; Villa Medici, Rome; the Arab World Institute, Paris; Jeu de Paume, Paris; and the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Lyon. He has given talks at NYU and the Dubai Future Forum and led workshops between France and Morocco.
