The Scylla/Charybdis Temporal Rift Paradox
The Scylla/Charybdis Temporal Rift Paradox
Charybdis and Scylla—the two sea monsters guarding the Strait of Messina that Odysseus must navigate—are reimagined here in the 26th century, embodied as two female figures symbolizing progressivism and conservatism. The work stages a dialogue in which these two political poles debate their conflicts and their resolution within a virtual desert. A robotic arm moves the screen to various locations in the room, producing—when viewed from a specific vantage point—an anamorphic image of a dune landscape with palm trees. The dialogue is in Modern Standard Arabic, subtitled in English and French.
